Bats are animals who are equipped with excellent self-defense capabilities. For example, they have the ability to use their radar and stay away from the predators at all times. They are also using the same radar in order to overcome the obstacles that they come across as well.
Even if they are equipped with such self-defense capabilities, we can still see how bats are being killed by numerous other animals. Here is a list of some of the most prominent predators that the bats have.
Mammals
A large number of mammals tend to kill bats and consume them. Animals such as raccoons, minks and weasels are capable of climbing to the areas where bats live. Then they catch the bats and consume them. Bats are usually active during the night time. They prefer to sleep during the day time. This is the main reason why such sleeping bats are attacked by mammals during the day times. Bats belong to the category of mammals as well. Some of the larger bat species tend to prey on the smaller bats as well. This is a common sight that you can find in the highly dense bat populations.
Birds
Birds are having some distinctive advantages when compared to mammals. One of the best capabilities that the birds have is that they are capable of getting hold of bats during a fight in an effective manner. The biggest bird predators that bats have include hawks, owls and common grackles. They are capable of catching the bats who are flying out there in the sky as well. On the other hand, these birds are smart enough to get into the roosts through small openings and kill bats. These birds usually kill multiple bats together. It can provide them with a tasty bat treat
Arachnids and insects
Due to the unique wingspan that the bats have, they are often being killed by the arachnids and insects as well. In fact, the wingspan can make the bats appear larger than they are. However, the body of a bat is really small. They have around 4 inches of body size. These bats weigh less than half an ounce as well. Due to the same reason, we can see how large spiders are killing the bats. On the other hand, insects such as centipedes are capable of killing the bats in an effective manner as well. The larger centipedes are longer when compared to the size of bats. Hence, they find it as an easy task to kill the bats with ease.
Other animals
Snakes are a perfect example for other animals who are killing the bats. They can act as excellent bat hunters. On the other hand, you will also be able to find how some of the fish species tend to catch bats who are flying closer to the surface of water as well. Bullfrogs are using the same technique in order to kill the bats who are flying near the surface of the water.
